Rural Crossroads Institute Receives Two Awards

RCI Awarded at the Summer Leadership Institute Conference in Myrtle Beach

Columbia, SC – During the June 18-23 2006 Summer Leadership Institute Conference in Myrtle Beach, the Rural Crossroads Institute (RCI) received two awards. The first award, presented by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA) honored RCI with the Organization of the Year award.  A second award was presented to RCI by the South Carolina Office of Adult & Community Education Community Division (OACE) as the Business of the Year for RCI’s continual work in supporting and partnering with Adult Education programs in the state of South Carolina.

“We are so honored to receive these two awards because we believe that until our citizens are appropriately educated, communities will continue to have limited opportunities” said Robin Chisolm PhD., Executive Director of the Rural Crossroads Institute.  “When citizens become more educated, the quality of our workforce will change, economically impacting current and future generations of South Carolinians.”

SCASA’s mission is to advocate for superior education for the citizens of the state by influencing education legislation and policy, stimulating and fostering support, building successful coalitions, ensuring a cadre of effective leaders, and providing programs and services for members.

OACE’s goal is to communicate a vision of collaboration for identifying community needs and resources in organizing school/community based educational programs designed to provide lifelong learning, health, and service opportunities, and to provide the necessary leadership and resources for the development of those programs.

Located within the SC Department of Commerce, RCI is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower rural South Carolina communities to implement best practices and share solutions by promoting economic development and growth.  Over the past five years the Rural Crossroads Institute and the SC Department of Commerce have worked closely to insure that rural areas can identify and secure limited resources in order to enhance their economic opportunity.
